* What is Human Trafficking? "It's Happening to Her, Right Now"
Polaris Project has been working to combat human trafficking, but
even to us, it is always difficult to explain what human trafficking
is in a few words.
What comes to your mind when you hear the term "human trafficking?"
To me, when I first heard the term "human trafficking," the vague
image I had was, "a poor girl who was shipped to abroad, sold,...a
long, long time ago."
But what we hear from the victims of human trafficking are some
familiar words, like, "runaway," "debt," "enjo-kosai (patronage
dating)," and "well-paid part-time job."
To answer a simple but complicated question, "what is human
trafficking?" and to help professionals who might meet human
trafficking victims at their work recognize the crime, Polaris
Project publishes a small booklet, available in Japanese.
The concept of the booklet is easy to read and understand the issue.

* Polaris Project Monthly Seminar:” How do we stop Commercial Sexual
Exploitation of Children" Second in the Series--Naughty Angels
Did you know that March 8 is the International Women's Day?
It was based on the protest of women laborers who demanded suffrage
on March 8, 1904, in New York.
In Russia, I heard that people celebrate the day is for men to give
flowers to women and for women to exchange small gifts.
In many countries, to celebrate the International Women's Day, events
to raise awareness of violence against women and girls during the
month of March.
In March of the International Women's Day, the second in the Polaris
Project's Monthly Series "How do we stop Commercial Sexual
Exploitation of Children" will invite you to consider the following
question:
"Why do children 'sell' their own bodies?"
Please join us in the discussion.

The Center runs emergency shelters and step houses for children who:
・Are not able to live safe lives as they are from broken families or
abused;
・Have lost "home" when they "graduated" from children's home;
・Are sent to juvenile corrective institutions for their misdemeanors,
because no adult is willing to take care of them;
