* [Saturday, May 9, 7pm-: Seminar on Child Trafficking:
Art touches the heart of human trafficking victims]

The Golden Week is coming.
While we hear that some people have no choice but to take 16-day off
due to the declining economy, but I hope that you have some good
plans for the upcoming holiday.

Polaris Project will hold the forth seminar in the series on child
trafficking on Saturday, May 9, after the Golden Week.
Please mark your calendar!

Following the third seminar with Mr. Kabe, former head of Cambodia
Office, of Kamonohashi Project, the forth seminar will once again
cover Cambodia and welcomes Mr. Akihiko Morita, Tokyo Institute of
Technology.

The theme of the forth seminar might sound a bit different from the
previous three: Sensing the feelings of human trafficking victims
with the use of art.

How does art relate to human trafficking? To find out, please join
our discussion on May 9.

The seminar would be recommended if:
you have any possibility of working with human trafficking as part
of your work; you would like to feel closer to the trafficking
victims; and you would like to learn more about Cambodia.

★[Saturday, April 11, 7pm ~: Seminar on Child Trafficking]

Cambodia -- surrounded by Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam,
have you traveled this country famous for the Angkor Wat?

In this beautiful country to which some 150,000 travel from
Japan per year, child human trafficking is widely spread.

Several years ago, a Japanese university student traveled to
Southeast Asia and witnessed child prostitution in Cambodia.
Children are forced to work in prostitution, often controlled by drugs.
HIV/AIDS is spreading among children.

The student was determined to work on the problem when he returned
and, with other founding members, a NPO was established to combat
child prostitution in Cambodia.

The third in the Polaris Project seminar series, we will have a
speaker from the Kamonohashi Project, a Japanese NPO that works in
Cambodia.

Polaris Project works in Japan while Kamonohashi Project works in
Cambodia, but we share a common goal: to eliminate human trafficking.

We invite you to the seminar to learn and think together what we can do
about the issue.   Please join us on Saturday, April 11, from 7pm.

* What is Human Trafficking? "It's Happening to Her, Right Now"

Polaris Project has been working to combat human trafficking, but
even to us, it is always difficult to explain what human trafficking
is in a few words.

What comes to your mind when you hear the term "human trafficking?"

To me, when I first heard the term "human trafficking," the vague
image I had was, "a poor girl who was shipped to abroad, sold,...a
long, long time ago."

But what we hear from the victims of human trafficking are some
familiar words, like, "runaway," "debt," "enjo-kosai (patronage
dating)," and "well-paid part-time job."

To answer a simple but complicated question, "what is human
trafficking?" and to help professionals who might meet human
trafficking victims at their work recognize the crime, Polaris
Project publishes a small booklet, available in Japanese.

The concept of the booklet is easy to read and understand the issue.

Booklet "It’s Happening to Her, Right Now"
1,500 yen + Shipping (140 yen within Japan)
* The profit will support the direct services of the Polaris Project.
You could also download the booklet for free from our website.
