* Polaris continues the effort to combat human trafficking in 2010*
It has been almost one month since the start of the new year.
What is your new year's resolution?
Polaris Project has more ambitious resolutions in year 2010.
In addition to continuous work in victim support programs,
we will issue research papers on trafficking trend in Japan
as a part of our advocacy efforts.
We are also planning to renew our monthly seminar in this coming April.
Furthermore, with the support of volunteer staffs, Polaris will carry out
awareness raising events on human trafficking problems in Japan.
Your support is a key to our success.

* Monthly seminar series, "How do we stop
commercial sexual exploitation of children?"

"Girls without Home"
The last seminar in the series in February welcomes Mr. Daisuke
Suzuki, a journalist who has been reporting young Japanese girls
on street.
Mr. Suzuki is an author of a book "Girls without Home" (2008,
Takarajimasha, Inc.). He wrote the book after interviewing a
total of some 100 runaway girls for almost eight years.
The girls he spoke lost home because of abuse, poverty,
and other reasons which made their home no longer safe.
In need of foods and shelters, many sought their way
of living in prostitution.
Mr. Suzuki will report the situations of runaway girls, men who
host the girls at their residence, and illegal prostitution
groups. The seminar will invite you to discuss social welfare
policies for children and youth.

* Polaris Drop-In Center
Polaris Project started Drop-In Center in November 2009.
The center mainly targets potential victims of sexual
exploitation.
The Center opens about twice a month and offer
individual counseling, sex education, and art workshops.
We have a cafe style room with warm orange colors. Our counseling
is not limited to sexual exploitation or victimization, but
is open to many issues.
